Why do we tend to gossip? Why we are fond of gossiping? Almost everyone of us have tried to gossip and have been a gossiper. A gossiper is the one who habitually reveals personal and sensational facts in the absence of person being discussed. Though he/she has no idea what the truth is, he/she keeps in gossiping which is a bad attitude. One has to exaggerate stories to catch the attention of others and then share it to them.
Back when I was in high school, I had this kind of experience that really catch my attention. There's a group of individuals that stayed up chatting almost everyday. I got curious about what they're doing. I approached and asked them if I could join. Without hesitation, they accepted me and started to gossip again. Weird? Right? One day, when we had our lunch break, we talked about a girl who is so obsessed with the man she really loves. By the way, that girl is our classmate. Sometimes, we got mad at her because of her maltreatment towards other people. They threw bad things to her as they converse and I have to admit that I also did the same thing. In my leisure time, a lot of questions entered my mind. I asked myself, "Why do I like gossiping?" , " Why I keep on doing these things?" But only one question really bothers me, "How do gossips started?" I feel like I am crazy that time and in lieu of thinking a lot of things, I started to search an article about my question.
I've come up reading this article entitled "THE ORIGIN OF THE WORD GOSSIP" by Gary Johnson. "The word gossip comes from the Anglo-Saxon word godsibb. The god in godsibb refers to "God" and the sibb refers to "a relation." The original meaning of the word gossip had to do with one person being bound to another by religious ceremony, or a religious sponsor." According to article, a gossip would also refer to a sponsor in a baptism. Unfortunately, nowadays, for me, I would rather like the meaning of the said word in the first place better than how does it interpreted by almost everybody.

As I searched more results, I saw this article about gossip and I found out more interesting statements about my topic with relation to the perspective of gender. This article is entitled History’s “Gossip” by Tom Pashley. I found it at New Histories website. Here is the part of his article: "The development of the word ‘gossip’ can be seen as symptomatic of wider gender conflicts which suffuse any history told from a gendered perspective, and as this edition has ‘conflict’ as its primary theme, I thought it might be interesting to bring the two together." It's not always pertaining to the behavioral aspect of an individual but with regards the male and female aspects itself. At first, I thought that it's only the female who started all these things out but also the male equivalent. As what I've read, gossip helps to empower the woman because at that time they were overpowered by patriarchal system. The meaning gossip had evolved and denoted as idle talk. I was surprised that female birthing culture has been a victim of patriarchal over a period of time. At the end, gossip came into form that signifies the powerful binary which is the man and no longer symbolized the female aspects.

It's a nice thing to know all about these things because I was able to share it with others and inform them what gossip really means back to ancient times. For more information, I suggest you to read this article, "Gossip Dates Back to Ancient Times" by Faze Magazine in their website. Its all about the experiences of some well-known people who were so affected through spreading gossips and how gossips brought them down.

The act of gossiping has been common to everybody and have you ever asked yourself how it all began. I asked myself about this and in order to satisfy my curiosity, I decided to have a deep and extensive research because I really want to find out how gossip affects us all and the things around us.
Gossip is quite ambiguous and vague not meaning but in its nature. I think there are a lot of things behind this particular word. Its not just all about its bad side because I know that if there's bad side, there's always good side. Just like the advantages, it has disadvantages. And that's what I will do to inform everybody all the necessary things they haven't known already about gossip. I'm pretty sure that my researches will be beneficial not only to adults but also to students like me.
